What is the Dongfeng Steering Gear

  • 1. Robust Gearbox Core & Worm Drive
    The heart of the system is the Steering gear case, housing the critical Steering shaft with worm. This precision-ground worm gear provides smooth, progressive steering feel. It rotates on heavy-duty Taper roller bearing 977007K (upper) and Taper roller bearing 977007 (lower), engineered to handle high axial loads from wheel forces. Bearing preload is meticulously set via Lower cover adjusting shim components and secured by a Fine pitch hex. thin nut M22x1.5 with Spring lock washer 22. The assembly is sealed by a Lower oil seal and protected by the Steering gear lower cover, isolated by a Paper gasket.
  • 2. Precise Pitman Arm Output & Sealing
  • Shaft & Arm Assembly: The worm drives the Steering arm shaft, which transmits motion to the steering linkage via the Steering arm. The shaft runs in a durable Steering arm bush and is supported by Bearing 922205 for smooth rotation under load.
  • Side Sealing: The shaft exits the case through the Side cover, sealed by an Oil seal 32x45x10 and a Side cover gasket. A Grease nipple M10x1 allows periodic lubrication of the bush.
  • 3. Steering Column Integration & Mounting
  • Column Housing: The Steering-column case connects the gearbox to the operator’s Steering wheel. It incorporates Rubber pad elements for vibration damping.
  • Secure Attachment: The column is fastened to the gearbox using Hex. head bolt M10×30 with Spring lock washer 8, ensuring rigid connection. A Steering wheel centre cap provides a finished appearance.
  • 4. Adjustment & Retention Systems
  • Mesh & Backlash Control: Steering precision is maintained by an Adjusting screw on the pitman arm shaft side, locked in position by a Fine pitch hex.nut M24x1.5 and Lock washer.
  • Critical Fastening: Numerous high-integrity fasteners are used throughout:
  • Hex. head bolt M8×20 / M8×16 secured by Spring lock washer 8.
  • Fine pitch hex. thin nut M16x1.5 for critical internal retention.
  • Positive Location: Parallel pin B5x8 and Parallel pin B8x16 ensure precise alignment and prevent rotation of key components like the steering arm on its shaft.
